Matthew's Birthday

Sunday afternoon we all got together and celebrated my nephew Shabadu's birthday 11th (In the Kurt family tradition, Shabadu was his nickname bestowed on him at birth by yours truly). Matthew dressed up in what he refers to as his "birthday suit" (complete with sword) and marched around the house, along with his cousins.

We have a number of traditions for birthdays - some new, some made up on the spot. In a tradition started long ago (strange how he chose a higher alcohol content Canadian beer), Matthew had his first beer but wasn't able to properly use his new automatic snowball maker.

Matthew received plenty of cuddling from all of his aunts and Uncles and he's never outgrown being rocked like a baby.

My Dad was out of town and Jon and Beth could not make it. The party was strangely quiet. I'm guessing it was because of my Dad's absence. One last thing of note was my nephew Ben's love for playing with dolls:
