Chicago

It's the kids spring break this week and we're taking them to Chicago for a few days. We're staying downtown, right on the Miracle Mile, which will be fun. I think we're going to the Museum of Science and Industry and The Shedd Aquarium for sure. Any other recommendations from those of you who've been there before with your kids?

1) Make the Shedd Aquarium a MUST. Don't leave without going there.

2) I agree with Kris: Navy Pier is lots of fun! (Especially if the weather is warm. If not, just bundle up and go anyway.)

3)DEFINITELY drop Cathie and the girls off at American Girl Place, which is basically on the Magnificent Mile. It's at the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Chicago. (If your girls have American Girl dolls have them each bring one as all the girls who visit the store (and the Mag Mile) carry their dolls with them.I'm totally serious.)While the girls are there, you and Nate need to head over to ESPN Zone. (It's on Ohio Street, which is a cross street on the south end of the Magnificent Mile.)

4) Can't go wrong with any pizza place. Particularly Pizzaria Uno (or Duo), Gino's East, or Giordano's)

5) Also, there are free trolleys to take you from point A to point B. They take a little more time, but it's free and the kids will like it.

6)Most kids like to take the Metra train out to the suburbs and vice versa. Hop a train and come visit us in Wheaton! :) (It's $5 round trip for adults. Not sure what the price is for kids.)

7) I'll give you more ideas as I/we think of them. Feel free to call us (phone number is on facebook page)or email with any other questions.

One more thing:

We LOOOVE this place:

We love to eat breakfast at Ktichn's in Roscoe Village. If you go on a weekend, be sure to get there early, like when it opens, because it fills up fast. I would imagine that it isn't as busy during the week. It's a 70's themed restaurant. The atmosphere is AWESOME. So is the food. Take a cab there. A super-fun place!!

1) Corky's for BBQ
2) Memphis Children's Museum
3) Mississippi Riverwalk
4) Visit Aunt Beth at St Jude's
5) Emily spend time with Stretch and Zoe
6) Nate play Wii
7) Madeline play dolls with Libby
8) Visit the Memphis Zoo and see the new baby panda

Oh wait, sorry, these are things you could do if you were going to visit your family in Memphis like the rest of your siblings do.

The Lincoln Park Zoo is kid friendly and free.

Oh!! Lincoln Park Zoo!! Great idea!

Couple more things:

If you want a nice dinner that isn't pizza or italian, I highly recommend Bistro 110. It is near American Girl Place. Here is the link:

http://www.levyrestaurants.com/Levy/DiningExperiences/Restaurants/Group4/Bistro+110.htm

2 people can eat dinner there~including a couple drinks~for around $60~including dessert. It's khaki's and a button down nice, no jacket required. You could definitely take the kids. I've seen families there before. I LOVE the atmosphere inside. It is warm and cozy and intimate. You will actually be able to hear each other speak ...the service and food are phenomenal.

Last thing: Right next to that restaurant is the Ghirardelli Ice Cream Shop. Amaaaaazing sundaes.

Ok, that's it. Enjoy!

The Polar Bear at the Lincoln Park Zoo is worth the trip to Chicago all by itself. The zoo is free and very good. Much better then you would think a free zoo would be. They should charge just so you don't underestimate it. Actually just send me 20 bucks apiece and call it good. The Polar bear is amazing! underwater viewing section that blew my mind. And of course the great NIKE TOWN! Michael

There are 3 polar bears at the Memphis Zoo. Also your family lives there (in Memphis, not at the Zoo).

You could visit the IKEA in Schaumburg. Or you could visit the one in Canton and visit your brother.

These are all great ideas, but there is one left...visit the Raitz family! Yes, it's worth a trip by itself. You know it. That's what she said.
