Good News: My TV is Dead

Four years ago when Senor Rays helped me find a deal on my Samsung DLP HDTV, I payed about $2300 for what was a $4000 TV. John Headapohl recommended that I get the extended warranty (for $400) because of the cost of repairs and blown bulbs in a DLP. Being cheap, I wrestled with the decision, but took his advice. Over the past four years, I've had five separate repairs on my TV - fixing circuit boards, blown bulbs and other things. Each repair would have cost me anywhere from $300 - $800 but with the extended warranty, they cost me squat. I had the repair guy out on Wednesday to fix my TV and he diagnosed the problem to be a $850 part, which they didn't think made sense to replace. I got a call from ABC Warehouse today asking me when I wanted to receive my new TV. I was skeptical, asking what they whether they were replacing it with a used TV or a cheaper model. They explained that tomorrow they are delivering a brand new $1,600 Samsung HLT50765 50" 1080p (my current TV was only a 1080i). The new model has 3 HDMI inputs (as opposed to 1) and is only 10" deep. I'm giddy. Needless to say, I bought the extended warranty again.

Congrats.

You have more HDMI inputs than I do.

Good thing mine is still bigger.
