Our weekend

I got back from New York around 8pm on Friday so we hung out for a while and I was asleep on the couch by ten after a very long day. Saturday morning started early cuddling on the couch with Nate and Maddie while watching Kid Nation. I think I accomplished more around the house on Saturday then I've done in the past month put together: I got the garage cleaned out to the point that it hasn't been in a long, long time, I fixed Nate's bike, winterized the deck and some other miscellaneous junk to the point that I felt productive enough to kick back and watch State beat Purdue. On Saturday night, Will, Brad and I took Eli out for his birthday. It was a good chance for the four of us to hang out together, laugh and talk. Cathie and the girls went over and hung with Dana and her kids while Nate got lucky and avoided hanging with the girls and had a sleep-over at a friends instead. On Sunday I had a leaders meeting after church and then we hung out as a family and had a pretty lazy day. Nate and I played Call of Duty 4, which is amazing, and then we kicked back to watch the Lions stick it up. Sunday evening we did a family talent show with the following talents:
  • Nate - Armpit Farts
  • Riley - Singing Happy Birthday (with the help of Cathie moving Riley's jaws AND singing for her)
  • Cathie - playing "Hot Cross Buns" on the recorder
  • Emily - Jump roping
  • Madeline - Singing a song
  • Me - Singing "The Devil Went Down to Georgia."
We had a vote at the end, with Riley almost winning, but being beat out by Emily in a tie vote. It was a lot of fun with all of us laughing and chucking pillows at Nate as he pretended to sleep through Maddie's ten minute song. When I was a kid, we used to have these talent shows on long rides to Iowa or Florida in the car. My Mom would either be the judge (or tell her peanut-butter-stuck-on-the-roof-of-my-mouth story, my Dad would sing little-boy-blue in very bad opera style, I would sing the song The Gambler (while my brothers would mock me doing motions to it) - and I can't remember what Jon, Dan and Susan would do. I would often get my Mom's pity vote in hope that I would behave the rest of the car-ride.

Even with the pity vote you were never good.
