Brad turned me on to a really interesting book on community and connectedness that flies in the face of many contemporary small group connection and community philosopies, called
The Search to Belong: Rethinking Intimacy, Community, and Small Groups. The idea of the book is that we "belong" at multiple levels, and that small groups are not the only way people can belong to a church or experience intimacy with others. I'm only a few chapters into it, but it's got some great stuff although a lot of it is anecdotal evidence.
