Man not phased by tase in South Lyon
A 47-year-old Howell man was arrested around 9 p.m. on July 4 after he was caught drinking on the Rail Trail and resisting arrest.
The man was found by a South Lyon Police officer on bike patrol on the trail between 10 and 11 Mile Roads. When he approached the man, who was drinking a beer, the man started to walk away from the officer.
He was ordered to stop several times but continued to ignore the demand. Finally the officer told the man he was under arrested and tried to handcuff him but the man pulled away and continued to walk away.
The officer then told him if he did not stop he was going to be tasered. He did not stop and the officer fired his taser, which had no effect on the man. He tasered him again, still without success.
Next the officer sprayed the suspect with pepper spray, which slowed him but did not stop him. A second officer arrived on the scene and fired his , l; mtaser, which was ineffective as well.
Finally, both officers were able to physically apprehend the man and take him into custody. He was charged with open intoxication and resisting arrest.
He was jailed until sober and faces a court hearing on those charges.
