Nate and I picked up the game Kingdom Hearts 2 last night. We started playing the first one about 3 years ago, when he was 6, and had a blast going through it together. Both games have an amazing story line that really draws you in, giving you bits and pieces as you go, really forcing you to carry the tension and connect the dots over time. The game is probably 60% story, 40% game play, but the story side is so compelling, you don't mind. It combines characters from all of the Disney movies with the Final Fantasy series characters. There's fighting, but no violence or gore. Nate and I each have our own game going, each helping the other when we get stuck, working together on different parts.
