Football

Nate's first practice in full pads is today. 95 degrees. Nice. He continues to love it.

Update: They ended up canceling practice yesterday because of the heat. I talked to my friend Newton down in Florida, where Football is a religion. He said they don't cancel practice unless there's lightning a few feet away. The kids don't even complain about the heat - just the fire ants on the field. After a recent practice he said it looked like the kids had the chicken pocks from the fire-ant bites.

I hope Nate is staying well hydrated. A kid died 30 minutes into football practice here because of the heat.

The coach does a pretty good job of making sure the kids take their water breaks pretty frequently.

From a mom's point of view, good call on the coach's part. Unfortunately, I've seen first hand what happens to these boys during 90 degree football practice.

It probably wasn't the heat that did him in...only the humidity.

I like the pretty flowers in the background. Makes him look even tougher.
