This Weekend

Cathie went with Maddie's Girl Scout troop up to Mackinac island for the weekend. (On a side note, did you know that my sister-in-law Beth was a Girl Scout up through her Senior year in high school?) My brother-in-law Kevin came up with Gabe and Allie for the weekend. On Friday night we took the Nate and Gabe to see Iron Man (best super hero movie so far, IMHO).

This weekend was the neighborhood garage sale and I participated, getting rid of all this crap, plus a bunch more of the kids stuff they wanted to sell. I setup the Wii in the garage and Nate and Gabe worked the garage sale for me. They liked the idea that indirectly they actually got paid for playing video games. When someone would come to buy something, Nate would hover over them and explain everything they were looking at, trying to sell the stuff. We did pretty well, selling a lot of our crap and then sending the rest down for Susan to sell at her garage sale coming up. I only bought one thing, but it was a heck of a deal. I bought a band new humidifier for my furnace (normally $120 - $150) for $20. I hope I have more luck installing this than I did my water heater.

While Nate and Gabe worked hard, Kevin and I hung our new blinds in the house. I was Kevin's worker monkey (no surprise). I would distribute the supplies and parts, while he would do the "thinkin" work. I would hang the blinds (my blinds are well hung) and put the valanaces on afterwards. We got all of the blinds in the house hung in a couple of hours and then the doorwall took about three hours.

On Saturday night I met up with Will, Brad and Bob at BW3's to celebrate my birthday. We had some wings and beer while watching the pistons game and then headed over to hang out with Janet and Rudy. Rudy showed us his Blade CX RC copter. We learned the hard way that indoor flying can be a dangerous thing.

Cathie got back this afternoon after a pretty long weekend for her and Maddie. They had fun, but apparently it was darn cold at Mackinac. When Cathie had left, the house was immaculate, so I had to get it back in the same shape she'd left it, which wasn't easy. One of the vetran moves I've learned over the years is to not try and clean up as I go. It just ends up getting dirty again. I wait until 2 hours before Cathie gets home and then do a mass cleaning all at once.
