When we were younger we gave Mom coupons as well. The best were the coupons from Dave. I remember one that was for Dave to behave for 1 day. This was one coupon that was never redeemable.
I remember Dad giving us Carte Blanche to buy nail polish at Meijers for Mom. We always thought she was a big fan of "Hooker Red" polish for some reason.
